Job Title: Senior Director, Travel Meetings & Events Procurement

Introduction to role:

The Senior Director, Travel Meetings & Events Procurement, plays a strategic leadership role in shaping and executing the global category strategy for all Meetings, Events, and Travel subcategories at AstraZeneca. With a focus on supporting our Global Meetings & Travel teams, this leader ensures best-in-class procurement and supplier management for company-wide programs and services.

As a subject matter expert in indirect sourcing with deep experience in meetings & events, and travel procurement, this individual partners closely with business stakeholders to develop and implement robust category strategies, lead high-impact sourcing projects, enable scope and demand management, and drive supplier performance and innovation.

This role carries global responsibility across Travel, Meetings & Events and requires business travel to meet supplier, business and project needs.

Accountabilities:

Category Management: Drive the global category strategy for Meetings, Events, and Travel. Collaborate with business partners to ensure robust recommendations and rationales for category direction. Communicate effective strategies to stakeholders worldwide, lead the implementation of sourcing plans, and foster strong partnerships across business areas.

Leadership: Lead a team of procurement and travel professionals to deliver strategy, execution, and service delivery of enterprise Meetings and Travel activities. Coach and develop team members to deliver performance while growing in their roles. Represent the Travel, Meetings & Events business within the Commercial Americas Leadership Team.

Travel Category Strategy & Services: Own the strategy, sourcing, and ongoing management of the global travel program. Develop travel policies, select preferred suppliers, manage sustainability efforts, negotiate contracts, and enhance traveler experience.

Supplier Analysis & Management: Monitor and analyze global supplier trends. Manage comprehensive supplier relationship programs across Meetings, Events, and Travel to ensure alignment with business goals.

Financial, Cost, and Spend Analysis: Build market knowledge of key cost drivers within Meetings, Events, and Travel categories. Analyze spend patterns to uncover opportunities for added value and cost optimization.

Sourcing-driven Project Management: Identify and lead complex sourcing projects. Provide project leadership to cross-functional teams to secure the best total value for AstraZeneca.

Negotiations, Contract Creation & Management: Develop negotiation strategies and manage contract creation across Meetings, Events, and Travel. Ensure favorable outcomes and robust compliance.

Stakeholder Management: Develop strategic stakeholder relationships to influence key internal leaders. Engage with senior executives on issues relating to meetings and travel.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Extensive experience in strategy, operations, and sourcing in a global environment, with significant expertise in Meetings, Events, and Travel procurement

  • Strong track record in indirect, marketing, and travel-related spend categories

  • Experience working for a large complex global organization

  • Experience managing global and local Meetings & Events Agencies

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience

  • Prior experience managing Meetings, Events, or Travel procurement strongly preferred

  • Experience in managing large global travel management companies

  • Proven ability to lead diverse, cross-functional teams, and collaborate successfully with business leaders at all levels

  • Analytical, proactive, and thrive on solving sophisticated challenges and driving continuous improvement

  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences

  • Proven persuasive and influential stakeholder management

  • Track record of delivering impactful results in alignment with organizational values and business objectives

Desirable:

  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical industry
